Our Story
Yorkie Clothing was established as a private company in June 1966 by Mr Victor Calleja. A fully owned Maltese company, it is one of the pioneers on the island, for the manufacture of men and ladies’ ready made uniforms and work wear. Yorkie specialises in the creation of uniforms that give corporate image to clients from a broad spectrum of businesses. We offer the finest services to customers in various sectors including catering establishments and the governmental sector. We pride ourselves in the ability to meet specific needs of customers, by keeping a vast selection of materials in stock. Over the past four decades, we have built an an undisputed reputation for the best customer care, with an efficient off the shelf, or made to measure service and high quality products that are followed up by an unparalleled after sales service.
Our Products
Yorkie is determined to remain the number one government school uniforms supplier and it’s for this reason that client opinion and satisfaction are of great importance to the company. Year after year material quality and garment measurements are improved to meet the clients demands, and expectations. Every year customer complaints are studied and the quality of garments and fabrics are carefully chosen in terms of their weight, colorfastness, durability and matching color scheme of each respective college. It is not an easy task to finally approve a product because of many variable factors. One of these factors is the quantity issue as Malta is a small market and our suppliers have to do extra effort to meet our minimum quantities, our rigid quality standards, colorfastness and specific color demands to meet the minimum order levels for styles, colors, and embroidery, of each respective college.
What We Do
Yorkie Clothing has been supplying and manufacturing uniforms for schools for over fifty years. The company was incorporated in 1966 but started in 1962 and have supplied uniforms for all colleges and schools to be found in Malta directly or through established shops such as Paces of Sliema and Valletta plus others to previously operating in Paola, B’kara, and many other towns. Yorkie was originally known for the manufacture of Blazers, skirts, trousers, shorts, and other products. Today we supply complete school uniforms especially the government colleges where the company is the recognized as the sole official supplier of college uniforms. Our products are chosen, from suppliers who are especially selected because they can provide us with competitive prices for our products but more importantly they do this not at the expense of our quality standards, plus are able to supply constant quality goods in terms of colorfastness, appropriate weight of fabrics and that the ultimate uniforms supplied are of materials that provide a comfortable soft fit, durable material and always in the right composition, required by the Ministry of Education. The company ensures that any complaints of customers are each individually studied and wherever in doubt the customer always wins. We judge our service by the care we give to our customers knowing that we are providing our best care and product. We pride ourselves on our customer service.
The Shop
The Shop is located on the outskirts of Birkirkara less than one-minute drive from Mater Dei. It has been recently redesigned, decorated and enlarged to provide better service to customers and increase employee productivity. The shop has two floors, each having an area of over 300 square meters where on each floor, are exhibited the uniforms of five colleges plus accessories such as socks, belts, and as well various brands of school sports shoes and classical school shoes. The Ground floor has the following colleges; St. Clare, St. Gorg Preca, St. Thomas More, St. Therese and St. Benedict whilst the first floor serves San Andrea, St. Margaret, St. Nicholas, St. Ignatius and Maria Regina. The Shops Director is Mr. Alex Calleja who is dedicated to keep striving to improve the shops decor, service, productivity and customer satisfaction.
